100 Acre wood - Recreated!

Winnie The Pooh is a favourite in our house, and Croc loves acting out the stories we read, so it wasn´t long before we made a One Hundred Acre Wood play scene.

Winnie The Pooh es un gran favourito en casa y a  Croc le encanta recrear los historias que leemos.  Asi que no tardó  mucho en hacer El Bosque de 100 Hectares!!!

It was a really creative play session.  Croc was completely in charge taking out all the different teddies and blocks he wanted.  (I did make him the hunny Tree - just my little part!).  He even chose specific scenes from the book to "play-out"

Era un juego muy creativo.  Croc estaba completamente al mando sacando todos sus ositos y bloques.  (Bueno, yo  le hice el arbol de miel).  Incluso escogió algunas escenas del cuento para recrear.

Little Boo doesn´t know or love Pooh quite as much as her big brother but she loved playing in this multi-sensory play scene.

La Peque Boo no conoce ni  ama a Pooh tanto como su hermano, pero si que disfruto jugando en este espacio multi-sensorial.

Lets Pretend- Pretendamos

3 current buns in a Bakers shop

The 29th day of the 30 days Hands on Play challenge - Pretend Play.  Croc has the wildest imagination that makes pretend play so much fun, he loves getting into roles and being someone or something else.

I saw a similar idea to this on another blog (but have since forgotten where, sorry!).  We played at bakers shop!

El día 29 de los 30 días de desafío Hands on  Play - Juego Simbólico. Croc tiene la imaginación más salvaje que hace que el juego simbólico sea muy divertido y no se canse de jugar mucho, le encanta meterse en los papeles y ser alguien o algo diferente.
Esta idea nace de una similar que Ruth vió en otro blog (pero desde entonces ha olvidado de dónde, lo siento!). Jugamos en la panadería!

I laid out his blocks in the bun mold tray (I think play dough would have been much more fun here but I didn´t have any ready, note to self to ALWAYS have some play dough ready!)

Croc put on his chef´s hat and apron and played the baker, we sang the nursery rhyme 3 current buns (12 in our case), and I wrote them down on the wipe board as we sang along.  I, Boo and the Duplo figures all "bought" the buns.

Puse  sus bloques en la bandeja de moldes (creo que la plastilina habría sido mucho más divertido aquí, pero yo no tenía ninguna preparada, NOTA: tener siempre un poco de plasti  listo!)

Croc se  puso su sombrero de chef y el delantal y jugó a ser el panadero, cantamos la canción de cuna "Three current buns" (12 en nuestro caso), y yo escribía en el pizarrón a medida que en la canción íbamos contando. Yo,  Boo y las figuras de Duplo  "compramos" los bollos.

It was a really fun activity, we managed to squeeze in some singing, maths, colour sorting and imaginative play into it.

Small world play- Pequeño mundo para jugar

Another day another challenge from the 30 day hands on Play challenge.  Make a small world for the kids and let them play.

I like to make small world play scene´s with different materials (duplo and wooden blocks; paper; household items; play dough etc) as it adds a sensory element to the play.

Otro día, otro reto de los 30 días de Desafío de Hands on Play. Hacer un pequeño mundo (suena a restaurante oriental) para los niños y dejarlos jugar.
Me gustó hacer esta pequeña escena de mundo y dejar que jueguen con diferentes materiales (duplo y bloques de madera, papel, artículos para el hogar, jugar, etc masa), ya que añade un elemento sensorial a la obra.

Numbers game- Juego de Números

Using the numbers from our giant foam floor mat and some wooden blocks I made this simple numbers game for Croc.

As it was the first time we tried this I decide to start with just the first few numbers and then build up.

I laid them out on a white sheet as I thought it would be easier to see them that way and not be distracted by anything else.  I set out the numbers with the corresponding number of blocks underneath.

Usando lo numeros de nuestra alfombra de espuma y algunos bloques de madera, Ruth hizo un juego de Números para Croc. Como era la primera vez que intentamos esto empezó primeros con los números y luego empezaron a complicarlo.

Los pusimos en una hoja blanca por que pensé que sería más fácil verlos de esa manera y no se distrairía con otra cosa. Puse los números con el correspondiente número de bloques por debajo.

Day 3 Hands on Play Challenge

Block Building

Anna  @ The Imagination Tree has chosen block building for the 3rd day of this challenge.  She gives some great ideas to get you started on this one. 

We have two sets of blocks, a Duplo set and a wooden one.  The Duplo comes out on a daily basis and the wooden ones are out a couple of times a week at least so this is not an unfamiliar play area!

So whats new for us here? 

 Well, when the blocks come out I leave Croc to it and get on with something else knowing he´ll be entertained for a while.  I'm not usually around for the block play so this is different as one essential part of this challenge is to play for at least 15 minutes with your child.  I´d also set myself the goal of trying to combine more play with Croc and Boo together and up until now the blocks have been Crocs toys and poor Boo hasn´t had a look in. 

I thought Id try one of the ideas suggested and asked Croc if he could make a tower as tall as himself.  He loved this idea, and went up in stages.  First he made one as tall as Boo, then himself and finally wanted to do one as tall as me.  The tower fell down lots of times but he kept at it and kept building and rebuilding.  I reckon the minimum time went on this project alone.

Integrating Boo (in a peaceful way) was hard.  There was plenty of pinching blocks and snatching back going off, but she seemed mostly uninterested and kept wandering off.  I found the "postbox" block and showed her how to post through, this did catch her attention and she tried many different ways of posting the block through.

Next Croc built a Petrol station for his cars, I was on hand to pass him the blocks but wasn´t allowed in the building process at all!  He then got out his cars and starting telling a story and gave a full dialogue for the characters.  He seems to happily switch back and forth between Spanish and English in his play and mixes it up quite a lot.  

Story mapping ()

Today we story mapped The Gruffalo with the teddies taking the star roles of mouse, owl, fox, snake and gruffalo.  I threw down a green blanket on the floor and with the blocks Croc built the various scenes of the story.  He  knows the story (almost) of by heart, and played it out all by himself.

Hoy hicimos una representación de un cuento El Grúfalo, que es uno de los favoritos de Croc (puede recitar casi todo él de memoria). Los peluches tomaron los papeles principales del cuento: el ratón, el zorro, el buho, la serpiente y el Grúfalo. Pusimos una tela verde en el suelo como base y él se encargo de ir construyendo los escenarios con bloques de madera. Croc iba representando la historia solito.

Boo´s really starting to get around and loves playing with books, turning the pages looking at the colours.  She loves this version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar as it has different size pages with holes through which she can touch.
Aquí está la nena que empieza a disfrutar de los libros, sobre todo de manejarlos, ver colores y volver páginas con su pequeñas manitas.
